A St. Charles juvenile was charged with possessing a Glock equipped with a switch, possessing a pound of marijuana, and felony resisting. After police initiated a traffic stop, the defendant fled. Officers later found the firearm and marijuana beneath the seat directly in front of where he had been sitting. Because the defendant was nearly 18 at the time of arrest, the Juvenile Office sought to certify him as an adult. During cross examination,  the deputy juvenile officer was forced to admit that the defendant had completed numerous juvenile-court programs and remained capable of rehabilitation within the juvenile system.Attorney Cooke also established that other passengers were in the car and that no police could not determine who owned the drugs or firearm.

The judge denied certification and the prosecutor dismissed the charges on the eve of trial.
